Symbian Foundation to release Open Source PlatformThe Symbian Foundation has announced that the source code for its mobile platform will be completely open source from 04/02/10 It has been 10 years since the foundation was established and from the start it wanted to release an open source platform. Four months earlier than planned, they have finally achieved their goal. Currently Symbian is one of the worlds most widely used smartphone platforms. With the move from proprietary software to open source software, any developers can now use or modify the code and then deploy it on other devices or mobiles. Executive director Lee Williams believes “the development community is now empowered to shape the future of the mobile industry, and rapid innovation on a global scale will be the result,"
