OpusVL - Sponsors at Strategic Procurement 09 OpusVL are proud to be sponsors of the government procurement event held at the Barbican. The event was held to enable government procurement and local authority groups to meet suppliers to discuss improving value and accountability to the systems in place.
The government spend £175bn per year through procurement and actively are seeking better value for money. OpusVL provided a great deal of information on Open Source and how it can be used within the Public Sector.
By providing accountability and sustainability of Open Source projects, OpusVL were able to open new options to government purchasers.
Tod Curry from Redhat presented the advantages of Open Source and underlined further the maturity and stability of the Open Source route. He described the way that Transport for London deliver the Oyster travel system on an Open Source engine and how the police use Open Source to enable the best performance and integrity with the ANPR system.
It is hoped that the government departments may now have gained more confidence in Open Source which will be a benefit to people throughout the UK.
